Synopsis

The dissertation examines the ducal Bavarian financial administration in the period from 1550 to 1618 at three administrative levels: the higher authority (Hofkammer), the middle authority (using the example of the Rentamt Landshut), and the lower authority (using the example of the Pflegamt Moosburg). The focus is on organizational structures, written communication, and spatial mobility.

With the establishment of the Hofkammer in 1550, the financial administration of the Duchy of Bavaria received the decisive impetus for the development of a modern hierarchical administrative structure. The operational written communication on which the centralized financial administration was based went hand in hand with the systematically organized, routine mobility of officials in the duchy.

Isabella Hödl-Notter completed her bachelor's and master's degrees in Bavarian history and early modern history at LMU Munich and spent an ERASMUS semester (2013/14) at the École nationale des chartes in Paris. In 2022, she received her doctorate in modern and contemporary history from LMU Munich.
